As reflected in the Connecticut State Board of Labor Relations Case #30888, the University recognizes the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW), and its Local Union, Graduate Employee Union-UAW Local 6950 (GEU-UAW Local 6950), as the exclusive bargaining representative for employees in the bargaining unit. The bargaining unit shall include all University of Connecticut Graduate Assistants (GAs), including Teaching Assistants (TAs), Research Assistants (RAs) and other Graduate Assistants who are not TAs or RAs. The bargaining unit shall also include graduate students whose functional relationship to the university is substantially identical to GAs even if another term is used by the University to describe their position. GAs with appointments at the University of Connecticut Health Center (Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine), graduate students performing internships required as an integral component of a graduate educational program (specifically, in the program known during the 2014-2015 academic year as the Provost’s Professional Internship Program for Public Outreach, Service and Engagement), confidential employees and managerial employees shall be excluded from the bargaining unit.
