Section 1. PIs may request to offer international Postdocs initial appointments and reappointments of more than one (1) year as permitted by Article 6.
Section 2. The University and the Union recognize the importance of timely work authorization processing for international Postdoc appointments and reappointments. The University will continue to make its best effort to complete work authorization documentation for which the University is responsible in a timely manner. The Union will encourage international Postdocs to provide all necessary paperwork and materials in a timely manner to the University and to contact their PI for assistance if they experience a delay in the University's processing of work authorization documentation.
Section 3. A Postdoc whose return to the U.S. is delayed by a U.S. government initiated background check or by the legal requirement that they return to their home country prior to readmission to the U.S. will at the discretion of the PI be placed on unpaid leave status for a period determined by the PI, but no longer than the Postdoc's appointment. If the PI approves it, and if
it is otherwise authorized by law, thePostdoc may be permitted to work remotely during some or all of this period. The decision of the PI under this provision is not subject to the grievance and arbitration procedure unless it is in violation of another substantive provision of this Agreement.
Section 4. The University agrees to meet and discuss improvements tothe Postdoc onboarding website, as it pertains to resources and information for international Postdocs. The Union shall have the opportunity to review improvements and make recommendations, which the University will consider ni good faith. Final revisions or additions to the Postdoc onboarding website remain the sole discretion of the University. The onboarding website improvements may include, but are not limited to:
a Relevant visa categories and eligibility;
b) Visa application and renewal process;
c) UConn's e-verify status and eligibility for F-1 STEM OPT extensions.
